Explaining Death, Danger, and Daggers to a 4 year old
Wed 08 29, 2007 | Posted by Mike
So, this morning I missed Minyan.
Voluntarily.
I was busy talking to Yehoshua, and then to Shira.
It wasn’t just your regular Dad-Kid chat, but it had to do with violence.
See, ever since this ridiculous invention called summer break started, the kids have needed outlet after outlet.
We had camps, friends, grandparents, toys, activities, - you name it. everything short of a full fledged vacation up north.
But the kids still resorted to whining, kvetching, and hitting.
And then this morning - knives got added to the list.
No - not Jitsu knives, just plain old box cutters.
But they’re still drangerous.
So we talked about death and we talked about injury, and we even spoke about actions and responsibility and repercussions. (that’s when you get hit in the back of the head hard - again)
And then we chose our own punishments.
Shira now goes to her room on her own if she “forgets” and hits a sibling.
Yehoshua also goes to his room, but he might also lose the privilege of walking to school on his own - as that’s a privilege for only big boys.
Let’s hope this lesson works.

After a three week + hiatus out on Moshav Matityahu, we are finally safe and sound in our new home.
Pictures will be coming soon.
Once we get rid of all the boxes.

Moving day
Sun 08 19, 2007 | Posted by Mike
Today was the fifth time we have moved as a family.
Please G-d it will be the last time (at least for many many years)
It also was the worst move.
These guys were terrible.
They dropped my closet down the steps in the old house and then again down the steps in the new place.
Then, they decided the easiest way to get the piano through the front door would be to break a leg off.
I know some people are sensitive about this kind of topic, so I’d tread gently - but hey, the piano legs aren’t supposed to break off.
Somebody please call the circus - I think I’ve found the couple of clowns they’ve been missing…

Hinda’s Married
Mon 08 13, 2007 | Posted by Mike
So my little cousin Hinda is married.
Why, it just seems like yesterday we were still calling her Hinda Kashnow.
Time sure does fly by.
Would’ve loved to have been at the wedding. Happy though that I made the bris on time.
If we weren’t moving next Sunday, I’d go for the Shabbos Sheva Brochos.

Binyamin Bainish

We named him after his mother’s mother’s father.
Binyamin Bainish was a wonderful man, and we pray this little man will also grow into a wonderful tzaddik.
